Commercial Smoke Ventilation Systems – Extraction & AOV

AOV is abbreviated for “automatic opening vent”. An AOV system is a means of venting smoke through a shaft or a window in the event of a fire.
It is a legal requirement to ensure that escapes routes remain clear from smoke in commercial and multi occupancy buildings, this ensures that occupants have a clear path for escape and also allows the fire brigade visible access in compliance with the recommendations of approved document B and BS 9991:2011.
An AOV is usually located on a window where free air vent allows smoke to be extracted or on a central shaft.
Integrated Protection Maintenance Services Limited have trained engineers that are able to service most AOV systems at least once a year to ensure that the system kept in working order in accordance with BS7346 and BS5588. We recommend that an AOV system is serviced regularly as part of a preventative maintenance. Integrated Protection Maintenance Services Limited can provide a tailored maintenance schedule to give peace of mind to the building’s owners and occupants.
